The marine law enforcement branch of the department provides service to Oklahoma's 35 state lake/recreation areas and 4,408 miles of river and lake shoreline. The Lake Patrol (OLP) is comprised of 38 officers, 4 supervisors, and one commanding officer.
Lake Patrol personnel are called upon to conduct search and rescue and drowning recovery operations. Members are at the ready to assist state and local authorities in natural disaster situations where their expertise would be needed. During the winter months, OLP personnel travel the state to conduct boating safety courses for Oklahomans who own and operate marine vessels.
